What Causes Dark Circle Under The Eyes?

Dark circles are an unwelcome yet common skin issue– they’re persistent, annoying and can make you look like you’ve had no sleep at all. Even if you are one of the lucky few to get a full eight hours of sleep. The question is for many.. “Are dark circles curable”? , a question we've pondered to answer.

Dark circles are likely to become more noticeable and prominent with age. This is because as people get older, their skin loses collagen, becoming thinner and more translucent.
Determined to eliminate dark circles; we investigated tips, tricks and products that show the most effective way to brighten up your under-eye area once and for all.

People often think dark circles are due to tiredness, poor diet, stress, sun exposure, smoking and a lack of sleep. Although these can be one of many causes, there are other reasons for dark under eye circles, such as allergies and the natural aging process.

Dark under eyes circles may have different distinct colours such as purple or blue to dark brown or black, depending on the individuals skin.

These dark circles are rarely a cause for concern, but people may wish to reduce their appearance for cosmetic reasons. In some cases, darkness under the eyes can indicate a need for lifestyle changes, such as improvements to sleep habits or diet.

Dark rings are typically most noticeable near the inner corner of the eye and then spread (or 'circle') under the eye, toward the outer corner. The skin in this area may appear darker than the rest of your face, though this varies depending on your skin tone.

In our digital world, we’re also spending long days staring at a screen – whether laptop, phone or television – and that’s doing our eyes some harm, too. The more screen time we rack up, the more likely we are to strain our eyes, which can prompt blood vessels around them to get bigger and create dark shadows or rings around the eyes.

When looking to brighten your dark circles, you first need to ascertain exactly what is causing them. Dark circles don’t discriminate when it comes to age, gender and ethnicity, although for some people are genetically born with a predisposition to them.

“The skin under the eyes is naturally thinner and can become more translucent with age, meaning that blood vessels can peek through, lending the skin a bluish tint,” she explains.
What’s more, post-inflammatory pigmentation could be contributing to the color of your under-eye area – especially if the shade sits more at the brown end of the spectrum. “This can be caused by hereditary factors, chronic rubbing (for example from contact-lens irritation, allergies or other eye problems) or sun damage.”

Home Remedies: Dark Circle TREATMENT ON A BUDGET

Although we've created formula's and products that go deep into the matrix of the skin to treat dark circles, we know that maybe this month's budget is looking a little tight. So we've done our research for the next best thing that may help treat the surface of the appearance of dark rings and circles.

  • Tannins in black tea reduce swelling and supply the skin with antioxidants: place two cool tea bags on your closed eyes for about 10 minutes. This should help reduce the swelling of dark circles.

  • Almond oil massage for better circulation: Gently massage the skin around the eyes with a few drops of oil. Always work from the inside out.

  • Cucumbers are a tried and tested method for getting rid of dark circles, because they are full of vitamins and supply lots of moisture: place cooled slices of cucumber on your closed eyes.

  • Massage & Mixcoconut oil and almond oil and massage gently in circular motion around the eyes. Leave on for about an hour. This should be done daily. You can also make the following eye mask that lightens dark circles if used regularly. My suggestion is that you make the mask and store it in the fridge.(Also Read: Coconut Oil Benefits For Amazing Skin And Hair)

  • Aloe Vera is an effective moisturiser. Moisturised skin is less likely to sag and will stay healthy longer. Additionally, aloe vera also helps to nourish the skin, preventing premature ageing. How To Use Aloe VeraBefore hitting the sack, gently apply Aloe Vera gel under the eyes and massage for 5-7 minutes. Don’t rinse unless you feel sticky and uncomfortable.
